I always wanted a booby trapped citadel. Turn on the booby trap, and the planet blows up creating a 25% nav haz if a non-corp person attempted to enter. Hehe. No more taking of my planets! Maybe have it auto-eject the traders inside. . . or maybe not, but the invader disappears in a bright ball of plasma. :>

Level 7 as a cloaked planet would be cool...and you could find them with a photon just like a cloaked player...

Or how about level 7 being a starbase...that defends the planet from invaders...With its own quasar cannon and shields and fighter force...with nice defensive odds...

I definitly like this idea. Maybe something of a sentinal or a Moon orbiting your planet wich would have its own upgradable toys. So say...

lvl 1 figs
-4:1 Defensive or offensive odds. But no percentages. Meaning its launches all figs either offensivly or defensivly when and indruder enters the sector.
(Cost to Build 50M Credits)

Total figs on the moon could be determined by its class. Some could hold more figs but have less cannon power, or sheild caps and vice versa. Would definitly have to have an intial cost to pop one of these moons. Say 100M or tons of resources so you couldn't just pop the perfect moon for every perfect planet with little loss.

lvl 2 a laser or cannon (250M Credits)
- Holds its own fuel for cannon/laser? Or maybe draws a percentage form the planet for each fireing.

lvl 3 sheilds(500M credits)
-Same idea, only maybe it could also steal sheilds form the planet.

All instant upgrades, just cost some cash.

Definitly be nice to have some good defense like this for those gimpy planet you have around for cash that just cannot efficently defend themselves.

I also would have to say cloaked planets sounds cool but definitly would take a lot of detailed thinking and hardcore testing for those I could tell you right now that if a cloaked planet could use a pTwarp whiled cloaked.... oh god save us all from the uber scripters :)
I alone, being somewhat of a newb, can think of at least 100 ways cloaked planets could be seriously abused by scripts and overall killing the fun of the game. Kinda like tweaked planetdrop scripts only 10x worse.

I like to throw wrenches in stuff. Its fun. ;)

The problem I have with all these suggestions is it gives the planet defender more of an advantage. Tradewars as it is currently, strategies, bugs, delays, etc. is already heavily geared towards the defensive. A planet is already equipped with an adequate number of features to defend itself. What these suggestions would do is further push tradewars into a stalemate/defensive game and diminish the offensive(fun!) aspects of it. In order to combat that you'd have to make upgrade times longer, or stats lower, or lower colos, all effectively ending your suggestions before they could even be used.

Good point Grave...altho a level 7 that could cloak would be cool as hell. Maybe just limit it enough so its not used continually. Like make it use fuel ore to be cloaked and when it drops to 10k fuel it reappears. Unable to fire cannons while cloaked. Unable to move while cloaked. Basicly like a cloaked ship...granted the player isnt on line when cloaked...it cannot do anything while cloaked except sit there. Would be nice to enable in unlimited games to hide your planet from the super scripters with no life. They would have to find it just like a cloaked ship. They find an anomaly, ptorp it, planet appears instead of a player in a ship. With restrictions like above it would keep it from being found as easily and also keep it from being used offensively with it cloaked. Just make it expensive as hell to get, maxed colos in all products, 100,000 of each product, and 50 Mil from the citadel to build it and like 25 days to build.

As a person who's played many different versions of this game since I first started playing tw2002 in like the late 80s, I would hafta throw out the following:

a.) You could definately do this without beefing the planetary defender's chances of success too much with adding limits like how many level so and so citadels can exist in one sector due to space limitation.

b.) The stability of things as current is actually better than it has ever been in any version of the game I've seen before, and part of that is because major fundamentals like citadel types and the such haven't been changed. I would imagine the citadel code is deeply embedded in many files in tw2002 and is probably a proverbial pain in the rear to modify heavily. This would risk introducing a ton of potential bugs and errors to the game. I also think a large contribution to the stability of this particular version is the fact that JP got it away from it's dos roots which really hinders a game that eats up that much HDD space and uses that much bandwidth throughout the entire motherboard be it processing using CPU/FPU or accessing ram/hdd.

On note b.), I'd like to finish up saying that no program gets to a finished state without going thru the bugs and sorting them... but again, I have no idea what the inside of tw looks like and i have no idea how difficult it'd be to do, I am only a conceptual person until I can get my hands into a project ;)

I like the idea of a L7 cit, but with a twist. Either make the L7 suggestions above (or other ideas) dependant on the planet type (I.E. only a O class cloaks, but an L class gets a shipyard, something along those lines) OR offer the player the option of which one he wants to build, with construction times variable (similar to port construction).[}:)]

I just had an idea, maybe for a level 7 citadel the planet could turn into a ship that you could pilot that manufactures products and shields, that would be capable of moving single hops without having to have a fighter lock, and that'd be capable of housing multiple traders at the same time (With only one in control, i.e. the rest of them log off and remain in the citadel for the night or until whenever) but it would still have to be invaded the same way a regular planet was to be captured... You could also make it capable to X onto and off of it from ships.. I don't know just a random thought I had.
