In a defensive gate-type sector, which planet (of a collection of H's) needs the most ore? the lowest number one or the highest?

Considering that the highest number is probably going to be the biggest shot, I would say that you would want alot of ore there.
But at the same time, its easier to calculate the shots by percentage if all the planets are at close to the same amounts.
So I'd have to agree with zentock, you'd want your ore evenly spread out over the planets.

You can normally get better ore to podding efficiency if your ore is on the later firing planets.

Ok test question, if you have 5 maxed H's in a sector with 1 Mil fuel capacity each, how many tries will it take you to get in the sector alive using maxed IC's (considering cannons only)? By my settings its 11 tries and on the 11th time you would end up in sector with 18,371 fighters left. Can anyone set up a stronger sector cannon defense than that given those same 5 planets?

Without adjusting the cannons mid-way, that's the best I've seen you can get. Of course, if you're serious about your game, you leave enough planets in the door to stop at least one corp for one day. You then unstack them every extern.

BINGO!! Witout adjusting cannons at all and with sector fighters deployed, a single corp would play hell taking that sector when there are 3 or 4 more behind it just like it I can change planets out with each day. Now you just have to figure out the cannon settings to acheive it. I will tell you that it goes against most peoples strategies of cannon settings but think of it mathmatically and not from the standpoint of how someone plays. The math always works out the same regardless. I have used this same strategy to hold off a corp of 4 who had over 3 Trillion in a citadel for assets to use against me. They still didnt take a sigle planet and they all died trying. They even paid others to moth for them and they still died trying. Good luck.

Ok, just out of idle curiosity, what was your cannon setting? I usually have my H's set at 3% atmos, 0 sector and maxed shields. This would give a 30k battle damage per shot. Naturally this would drop a bit with each additional try.

Ahab I hope you have a couple mil figs on that planet. Cause 30k damage is not that much. With all these gold edits it may br useful to bump it up to 6. I usually run from 6 to 15 on my planets. And mabey turn on the sec cannons to 3 to 5 on each planet. You should be able to stock up the fuel or rebuild your fuel fast enough to handle this.

Asuming a million ore, a 3% atmospher setting will do 60k damage if the game is running mbbs mode, or 15k damage if it isn't.

Depends on MBBS mode or not. The settings I found are non MBBS settings. I play mostly in the non MBBS games because I think the cannons are just really weird the way they work in MBBS. Also the reds have big enough advantages in a game as it is without putting megarob into it. I can tell you that ALL the sector cannons are over 10% even with maxed fuel ore. 1 Mil fuel at 10% is 33k damage sector.

But if you read the name: MAJORBBS you would understand its meant for big games. thats why these settings are there, its assuming everybody whos actually competing is gonna have a red to rob those ports.

Well, I DO have maxed figs on the planet as well as maxed shields. I never set a sector blast because the cannon can get drained by throw-away ships like merchants and such. I tend to play on a board with both a vanilla game and edited games. Granted the people playin there aren't in the league a lot of you are, but still they can't take me.

Thats actually a very good strategy, the atmospheric cannons do more damage with less fuel and if you have the planet fighters maxed and set them to 100% offensive, thats gonna kill a lot of ships before they get on your planets. Only problem I see is most people keep their bank in their deepest sector in a bubble so with no sector cannons they can walk all the way to your bank sector and take it without having to go through all your other planets. If you change it up then its always a guess but there is still a chance that they guess right the first time and only have to deal with 1 planet. Or it gives them opportunity to safely load up your sectors with planets and their own fighters so you get a nasty surprise later. Once I invaded someone like that...took 1 planet in each sector and moved them out and put in maxed level 6 H's. Thats really upsetting when they try to leave the sector and get wasted. Just some things to think about.
