First off, I was wondering if anyone could point me to a fairly populated traditional style game, meaning no more than 5000 turns per day or so, preferably a fairly large galaxy, and Ferrengi (love the fact that the best warship for non-CEO evil players is something capturable). I'm just an old player from the BBS dialup days who just doesn't get all this newfangled stuff. :p

As to unusual games, what I'd like to see is a game that's totally traditional where ships and aliens are concerned, but very unusual where planets and ports are concerned. Make g-torps and atomic detonaters prohibitively expensive, but, before letting any players in, delete or destroy (I'm not familiar with the tools) all ports, put stardock in Fedspace, and seed every sector with a random set of 0 to 5 planets-leave the useless ones right where they are. Players do not start with a "home planet."

This makes the game into more of a search for an ideal planet combination than a "map the universe and grab the bubbles" game. I can almost see some players using the less valuable worlds simply because other players might not expect it. Or, perhaps they'd be colonized just so someone could put a port in that sector (remember, there are no pre-existing ports, or perhaps no pre-existing ports outside Fedspace, in this game).

Anybody like this idea? I don't have a server, but if I did (and indeed, I may in the somewhat near future), this is exactly what I'd run.

0-5 planets per sector and a fairly large galaxy and low turns wont work all that well, heh. i believe if i recall correctly, the maximum # of planets in game was either 4k or 8k. so its gonna be kinda sparse in a large galaxy. also, there comes to a problem as to, how are you getting all those planets out there, heh.

Huh, that's a shame, Still, I suppose it could be done. just reduce the random number of planets per sector (with most having zero), and stop once you reach the maximum.

As to how to get them out there, that's easy man! Whoever's running the game just has to edit himself a maxed out ISS or something with a load of credits (enough to do the job), and write a script that will have it scatter planets around the galexy, going back to stardock when it runs out of g-torps. There's no reason I can see that it couldn't be done, other than a lack of helpers that support the necessary functions-and that can be fixed, I would think. It might take a few days, but what's so bad about that? I've seen plenty of games that are given time to "age" before being opened.

I know what you mean Tarvok, I miss the way that TW used to be played. I play the TWGS games once in awhile, but not very often. I like to build up an Empire but with the way the game is played these days, that just isn't possible. Login play, and die in a day or two....I don't find that fun. I know that I could sit down, learn how to use the scripts and someday be a contender in the TWGS games, but I just prefer to play the game the way it was intended (or how I think it was intended). Well the point of all this is that I am currently working on setting up a telnet BBS with all the games from the dial-up BBs years. I will have several TW games (v3.09) and I plan on them being the more Classic style games. I'm hoping that I will get players who want this style of game instead of the Script-em and Kill-em immediately type game. It will be a few weeks before its ready (Real life comes first) but I will be posting when its ready.

Yeah, I remember when you actually had to *think* about how you used your turns; so many of these games have unlimited turns, or at least so many as to be nearly unlimited (like Wyhteagle's game I'm playing in right now). The other problem I have is with "SUPAR UBAR SHIPS@@!!@!). I always felt the game was relatively balanced in how the ships were configured; there were definatly two distinct playstyles. Then there's the games that are so overloaded with Gold aliens that, whether or not the game is crowded with high level players, the game is nearly impossible for a new player to play.

we just had a "Big Game" with many people, 720 turns, and no aliens. other than the universe size, id say you missed your perfect game! heh. (oh ya, very near to stock edits)

Thought I'd point this out. Look at:
http://www.eisonline.com/twforum/topic. ... C_ID=17646

Not sure if its what you like. I think they've made a few changes on it. But the game marked *NEW* when you log in there seems to be a pretty well balanced out game so far. At least as far as I can tell. I've only been playing a day, but I've been enjoying it so far.

Well it sounds like a least a few people would like to play a TW game in the Classic way that it was intended.
