 Re: Where did everybody go?
Meaning what, MB, that I'm too lenient? This is the line that's so difficult to walk. I get complaints that I'm too oppressive (BigD, Farley, others), and I also get complaints that I let things go too far before taking action. I tend to get that complaint more than the one I'm getting from BigD, which makes it ironic that I'm being called a Nazi right now. I try to avoid micromanaging this forum. I actually don't want to be making these decisions myself at all. I want the forum staff to make these decisions. But when I feel it is necessary, especially when a member is personally attacking me, I will step in.
Farley got banned because he wanted to get banned. It fits his narrative that we're just control freaks over here. And he's been banned before. But it's hard to get banned from this site. Are you saying we should be more willing to ban members who break the rules?

 Re: Where did everybody go?
The nonsense is entertaining. I bet users check in here to view the nonsense more than any other subject matter. There needs to be a Jerry Springer section here for just nonsense.

 Re: Where did everybody go?
It may be entertaining for people to observe, but not so much when you're expected to deal with it. I deal with my 5, 4 and 1 year old kids every day, and I wish I could get away from that kind of behavior once I start working. But no, it's the same kind of nonsense. He touched me! He took my toy! It's not FAIR! Blah.

I feel your pain. Running a forum is a no win situation for the Admin and mods.

Are you saying we should be more willing to ban members who break the rules? I'm not in a position to offer you advice or discuss the current pinnings for two reasons. One, I really don't read every post, I just scan them for the info that interests me, ignoring the rest and two, I would never have this conversation with you in a public thread.

I do accept and respond to PM, MB, despite what Farley claims ;)

Farley got banned from material he sent you in a PM and yet I'm still getting nasty threats in PM's from one of your moderators. Threats that I will be banned just like Farley if I don't shut my mouth. Have I said anything out of line lately? Have I done anything more than state my opinion? Have I antagonized any of your moderators lately? I wouldn't be telling you this if I didn't care what happens to Tradewars and this forum. I'm just about to give up on this however, since it seems to be a lost cause. If you wish to carry this discussion further, I am reading PM's now, and I'm not deleting PM's in case I need them for reference.

Let's make sure this is clear, Farly got banned for telling a lie and sticking to it. The PMs were just proof that he lied, and also evidence of the true motives for his lie. It had nothing to do with the content of his PM.

What I meant to say is that you haven't been banned because you have behaved yourself. Farley did not. It's a threat to the extent that anyone who misbehaves will eventually be banned if they keep it up. It's a warning to the extent that you should know that once you've clashed with the forum staff, they're going to be watching you closely. But I'm not concerned about you right now. I'm glad you were able to let it go and I hope we can move on. That seems to be true of the others as well. Farley couldn't let it go. End of story.

 Re: Where did everybody go?
So Farley got banned for saying something similar to this and not apologizing after he said it. Helix wrote: Big D you are a liar. Why do you bother?

Actually it had nothing to do with anything you sent. It had more to do with the following quote, one of many I might add. Let's not dispute the sarcastic attitude or dismiss the fact that Helix is bragging. Literally smack talk thru PM from a moderator to one of your members and customers. Helix wrote: Too bad about Farley. He just didn't know when to shut up. I hope you learn something from his example, I would hate to see you banned.

 Re: Where did everybody go?
Actually, BigD, Farley got banned for being a liar, being warned that if he doesn't recant the lie he'll be banned, and sticking to the lie anyway. It's not like there's any debate whether or not he lied. In the case between you and Helix, there was a lot of uncertainty about what actually happened. I gave Farley an opportunity to present evidence that there were PMs he'd sent that I never received, but he wasn't interested in that. He wanted to claim that I ignore my customers, and that's simply not true.
Go into any forum and lie about the owner of that forum to attack his/her reputation and let's see how long you last. It's a very different thing than what happened between you and Helix.
It's like that guy who came in and accused Micro of cheating on his server. We proved that he was wrong, but I would never have considered forcing him to recant or else be banned. As the owner of this site, if someone tells my customers that I'm going to ignore them, however, I have a right to expect him to recant or give him the boot. No?

 Re: Where did everybody go?
Oh, I see on the threat. I thought you felt I was threatening you, and I didn't intend to.
I'd like to see you and Helix take the fight to another forum so we don't have to deal with it here. That's meant for both of you. But in general, I have no control over what Helix does or says "unofficially", whether in PM or off this site. Yeah, I'd rather it didn't happen at all. But I don't have that kind of control.
