 Script archive
I would like to start building a script archive for the TW museum. This is something I've been wanting to do since the museum opened, but it seems like such a large undertaking. But if I can get some help, it might be manageable. What I need is for people to provide me with links to scripts, and provide information about who wrote the script and when, and what version(s) it works with (BBS door, HVS, TWGS v1, TWGS v2). I don't want to merely provide a list of scripts. I want to provide credit for those who have written them, and also hopefully begin to form a timeline of the history of script development in TradeWars, because I think it is a very interesting story. There are obviously a number of individuals who have been highly influential in this development, and I'd like to showcase them and their contributions here.
I know I could find most of this stuff on my own, even in this forum, but I simply don't have time to do the research. So if I don't get much support in pulling this together, I'll just have to wait until I do have the time.

 Re: Script archive
Nod, would be very interesting. I remember writing an "evil" bot for Big Game 2 I think it was. I was the only red on the team cuz the bot worked like a champ. That was shortly before St-bot was publicly leaked. lol. Seeing the history of a lot of the scripts would sure be interesting.
I know one thing of interest that most people don't know. The mom-bot started back in 2003 (started based of st-bot and my evil bot with adaptions from a bot Zentock gave me called air-support or something like that). The earliest version I have on file is back from 2007 before we modularized everything.

 Re: Script archive
Here's one that goes back: http://www.ziskind.com/bbs-door-games-t ... s-2002.aspTelix Trade Wars Scripts (TLXTW204.ZIP). These are the first scripts I ever used (other than my own) as early as 1992-93ish. They are written in "SALT," Telix's scripting language. The author's name is Phil Crown. I couldn't swear to it, but I thought I saw the source once upon a time. Can't find it anymore though. Anyone happen to know where the source code is? Could be fun to include these just for posterity/kicks, even though they are obviously utterly useless nowadays.

 Re: Script archive
That's one I actually already have. I wish we could find the original code, though. That would be so much more interesting than compiled scripts that are no longer functional.
The whatsnew.txt file has some interesting information about the development of the script set, at least.
Thanks, Thorindude!

 Re: Script archive
Get in touch with Kav, he still uses Telix today. That's why you'll only see him in 5k universes.

 Re: Script archive
Kav did send me a set of Telix scripts. I hadn't looked at them yet, but they're the same ones, the Phil Crown scripts. He decompiled them, so there is some code, but it's not the original code, so it's very hard to read. Still, that is more interesting than just compiled script.
Thanks, Kav!

 Re: Script archive
All I can do is copy and past from NavHaz.com
I don't know the history of these scripts. You guys are the authors and need the credit.
And I need the information about which script works with which version as well. That's why I'm asking. Learning how to use these when some aren't well documented or don't come with help files at all.
New and returning players aren't going to stick in there like I have, most won't bother, or get frustrated and leave.

New and returning players aren't going to stick in there like I have, most won't bother, or get frustrated and leave. We have had a lot of very talented script writers over the years. I have not seen any new writers/scripts for a while. I think Grimy encouraged a lot of people to share scripts that would not otherwise have been shared.

Yes, and I have scripts that are private that I've been asked to NOT distribute. I'm only talking about the currently public scripts, most of which are on player fan pages. On Navhaz.com the scripts are dated and there's some description and credit to the author. I don't know how many of these work on v2 as they were written for v1.03. And the TWX and Mombot scripts that are continuing to be updated for the current version. It would also be nice to allow new scripts to be uploaded, with the disclaimer for all "Use at your own risk, these scripts are not guaranteed by the owner of this web site."

"Use at your own risk" is a given for scripts. Unless you know the author, I would not use compiled scripts. I've released in .cts form, and if a player didn't know me, then I figured they wouldn't use it. TWX has capability to be used in ways beyond what you see in the game.

 Re: Script archive
The SWATH script library hasn't been updated in years, but it has source code and author names for everything it offers. http://swath.net/?page=scripts

I think you have quite a job a head of you. 1. Look up the script writer in the member data base 2. Test each script to see how it works. (good thing you have a server) 3. Write an How-To and an evaluation for each script. 4. Post all that info in the Museum 5. Move to next script. Easy peesy. H

 Re: Script archive
It does not have to be that difficult. Copy & paste everything from Navhaz.com as is. Everything created pre-v2 will be in the section that these scripts were created for v1.03 and may or may not work in v2.
Put new revisions in another section with notes from their authors. I'd hope that all new revisions work in both v1.03 & v2.
I doubt we'll find all the authors of the public scripts posted on Navhaz.
The point is, I have tried a lot of these scripts, unsuccessfully and it's frustrating as heck! And we just want to preserve what he have available to us publicly just in case Navhaz or other player sites go "poof".
Goal #1 - preserve what we have in the EIS Museum Gaol #2 - Some explanation from the authors as to the use and deployment of scripts. if possible.
I don't write scripts, I wouldn't presume to speak for the author on their script. I just want to safeguard them in the Museum. All Scripts under one roof organized in some fashion. Not the Easter-egg hunt we have here in the forums.
