The deal to make them play doesn't mean they didn't put in maximum effort to win their style. If I thought it was just them turning up and cbying I wouldn't have played either. Trust me, they put in 100's of hours to get ready, hence Rider is so annoyed with the crash.. He's convinced they'd have one using their tactic.

I would like to talk more with you about this issue once the tournament running is over if that is OK.

I wasn't accusing anyone. I am saying look at the data. Find out why a stable fast server suddenly sprouts complete connectivity problems.

If you look above that you will see where i said define if it was a internal or external problem. Considering all the factors i believe external to be most likely.

THe whole re-start, people should have been screaming in first few minutes. I actually wanted a re-start also initially. However figured we'd just push on. It's TWGS, I'm sure this has happened before, i just don't recall where.

If it makes you feel better, I'll set up 6 bots one day and take on my start up vs your start up.. we'll do it on a private server so we can be 6 v 6 friendly.

Nah, all good, we have a nice start in the can for next time. I just wanted to know what happened. The amount of hours spent on our start across all the people involved was staggering, only to be nullified by a "glitch"

You really think an ISP/Host is going to spend any time helping you troubleshoot a short term outage?

Just so you know, this was SK's primary server for Many Months and never had any problems before.

This type of troubleshooting requires tracers to be running anyway, and you have to start the tracers before the problem happens. i have done this. You start the trace, preform the action that is failing, stop the trace, and then read through the pages of logs that were created in a few seconds. But you have to be able to reproduce the problem or you are just wasting your time!

In reality, you should have been setting at the main menu 30 minutes before game start so you could have reported any issues at that time. SK was sitting at his computer waiting for anyone to report an issue.

I'm thinking it was the Russian's. LOL.

Pick any tournament with more than 6 players. There are always connection issues. Plan for them! Connect early, so you can report/resolve issues. Be at the main menu watching the v2 game timer count down.

Shhh, let the adults talk. Only one person here was banned from that server for cheating, and it wasn't me.

I should have asked for a restart immediately, but I was too busy trying to figure out what happened, whether it was my fault or the server's, and then trying to get back in the game just in case we were denied a restart. I was trying to save the game and keep going. Then when SK asked if there were problems I said yes, as did several others, but nothing more happened.



Nothing like what happened in this game has ever happened as far as I can recall. Not this specific situation. I have never seen it.

Okay, for those who are confused by this whole discussion (since sk took something from a private convo and decided to share it), here it is.

When it was first announced that this tourney would be played with modifications including the removal of planet prods, there was both a public and a private argument that ensured. Many from our group who had put a lot of time in building scripts for this tourney were understandably unhappy about such a significant change, and the fact it was made without any public discussion. There were other changes made that seemed to be intended primarily to create a much longer game and one that frankly smelled more like HHT than ICE. Which, to each their own - I am not a fan of HHT but I know some are - however, I would rather only have one HHT a year. Let ICE be ICE, was my argument.

In the course of making that argument, things got heated and some of us said things we probably regretted, myself included. I also, believe it or not, care about the community and the game and wanted to see the game go on. SK had decided to cancel, somewhat understandably, and others on my team wanted nothing to do with this edit.

So, I worked out a deal with Sultan and Hammer to have a second tourney arranged a month after ICE that would include planet prods, and in return I could get all of my group to show up for this tourney (even though we hated the edit) so we would still have a game. Hammer is also a guy who, while he is the enemy when we play, I have a lot of respect for and who wants the best thing for the game - he wants to see these games get played. So we tried to work together to accomplish that.

For the record, I also agreed to publicly apologize to SK, which I thought I had done previously but since apparently I didn't -- I'm sorry for anything I said that was or might have been meant to be disparaging. I have a lot of respect for SK as a guy who puts a lot of his own time and energy into this game, always for the right reasons, and I am thankful that he has hosted this and many other games for years and given me a platform to play on. And I never meant to say anything that would in any way call into question his honor or character, which I consider above reproach.

All that said, it doesn't mean I agree with or like the changes he made, though I think I understand the reasons from his point of view. My argument was and is that ICE is ICE and should be allowed to be so -- anyone else could have done the things we did within the edit without completely changing its character.

And since I apparently pissed SK off by "going behind his back" to Hammer - it was never meant to be anything like that - he had cancelled the game, we thought it was best for the community to keep a long standing and respect tourney alive, and we got together and tried to find a way to make that happen.

Believe it or not, all of us don't hate each other outside the context of a game.

Okay Heard back from them.. Since I have an unmanaged server with them they are unable to provide the data. Next tourney I rent a better server with monitoring.
