This is how I do it, considering I'm pretty new I don't know if you want to listen to me . . . anyway
In a low turn game I'd trade up to around 950 exp keeping my align at 0 everyday by jettisoning people. By the time I get there, I should have enough cash accumulated to pbust quite a bit at least 20 odd planets so I'd go to terra and jettison as many people as I want then start pbusting. After that it a matter of how much exp you want to get, generally I've heard that the ideal EXP range is around 15K.

if you have a mixed corp in the game the best strategy is to do the followin ...

Have everyone go to dock at beginning of game and sell their ships, the ones who are going to go red buy merchant freighters and the ones that are going to go blue buy scout maurauders..

Take all cash generated by the sale of ships and give to first person going red. he goes and buys a load of torps and dets... goes to terra gots a load of colonist and jets them into space.

Then he goes and starts pbusting. once he gets areound 1 k of exp he buys another freighter and starts to sst between an evil pair. when he is out of turns he passes his money off to next red and cloaks out somewhere safe.

The next red repeates the process.

The next red repeates the process, but gives money to remaining blues.

Blues take money post on reds get commish and then buys starship's.

while the reds were doing this one blue should be ztming so that when you get money passed to you you can go and fill a couple of nice planet locations with fighters and start a colony. the blues will then colonise with their starships and the reds will sst. the blues will bring furbs.. to the reds... the reds will graduate to colts in a couple of days and be making some real good money.

This has been the fastest way I have ever started a game.

Note to get any benefit from jettison colos you have to be at +1 or higher alignment, it has been my expiernce if your at 0 alignment you do not take the negective hit for the jettison.

Zand.- your startup plan is pretty good except if the first red just uses the underground to drop to -10 alignment first then he will save between 13-24+ turns (estimated) from going to terra to get colos to jettison.

I usually play solo in non-ultra competetive games. I'll pair trade myself up to 1000 exp and then go red and use the cash to Pbust some planets. That will give me enough exp to steal full holds in a Merchant Freighter. Then start SSM (High Turn Games) or SST (Low Turn Games). As for the Optimum Strategy for a Really competitive game. Do what CSG said above. Also There are many, many, many websites with helpful info on the logistics of the game.

As a rule of thumb, what experience level should one be at before turning red? And would you just SST your way up the exp ladder after that point or would you want to pbust up to a certain level?

As soon as you can make more money as a red, go red. With the default settings you need around 1950 exp (1365 for MBBS) to steal in a merf.

CSG's post is great advice. We saw the top players in USO use that strategy and we tried it ourselves last game we played together. It's especially good in games where you start with way more credits and fighters than the default. Pooling your corp's resources to give one player a head start can have you making the big red bucks from day one.

Usually the best way to gain experience is by busting planets. If you don't have enough resources to go red right away, the next best thing is triple-trading at SSB-BBS and BSB-SBS pairs. I used to advocate Mega-Jettison as well, but there aren't many situations where that would be the best option. Maybe if your resources were low or SD was blockaded.

Suddenly you're Busted!
