I have got a question for all ya TW players out there... Would people be willing to play a server you have to pay to play, but get a reward in return? Say like a little cash pot for winning? Maybe some people have tried it before and know how it well it works... I was thinking like the highest player/corp by the time a certain date comes around, or something equivalent... I have no plans of doing this (in the near future), but I would like some input on this... Maybe this isn't even legal... (JP doesn't want us making money off of him [:)])But thought I would ask...

I think you're just asking for problems. You see how players react over games where there is nothing but the sense of accomplishment when you win... imagine how it would be if there was actually cash involved? There was a server that gave out prizes for winning games a while back, I think pagan ran it, not sure what happened to it. Not sure she ever had problems, but I still think eventually, it'll happen.

Well, I thought a person could use a website like paypal or something to handle money, but, like I said, it was just a thought. Of course there would have to be enough players to support the reward money plus the sysop to get something out of it as well... (Profit). But I will see if I can get some more feedback, but thanks Harley...

Well unless the reward was big enough with the payment small enough I dont think you would get many interrested in it. It would cause some major fights over who actually won and how because besides the normal whining and *****ing in the game for those who dont know its a GAME, it would also drag the greed factor into it kicking and screaming and everyone would cry about being cheated out of their reward.

I can attest for the most part it doesn't work. I entered my team awhile back into a tournament, purse was 500, entry was free (I think, I can't remember if I had to pay to enter or not).. End of first day, we had a huge lead, and most the other players we had ship destroyed, or at least podded. Anyway, down to the point.. It turned out the sysop was playing, and editing himself some really nice stuff, like ISS and commisions for his team (to get thru our dock block). After they, he accused me of threatening him, because I said we had "locked the game down" refering to stardock- then he banned our team.

This wasn't the only cash tournament we played, but I can promise you, they all ended the same way, or very close. If you would like to do this, I would recommend a board of directors. Rules and bilaws would need to be made. It would however be easy to have a 75 player game, with a few bux per person, or like 10 per team, winner takes all.

I'd play..

Well, see that is what I figuring... Like 2.50 to 5 to enter and win a purse of like 150 or 200 bucks. But like I said I would be doing to help with the costs of keeping my systems up and running like the cable connections, and other costs. There would have to be some profit in for the sysop before I would do it... And like you said, players would be a big conncern. It would have to be at least 50 players for it to work for me anyways...

Well, what I was thinking was like the game quits on a certain day, and the highest red or blue, but only one, would win. Whichever player was higher. I was thinking like 2 weeks of play and then determine highest player...

No doubt, if your going to do it, a clear winner must be decided, not by exp.

I say, when everyone is SDed, and only 1 person controlls 99.9% of assets.

Well, you can't watch everybody all the time... How else would you determine the winner?? Obvisously you get experience by PPT and stuff like that, but you really get experience when you attack people, especially when you attack people who have alot of experience as well... What else would you suggest? Cause the way I look at it, if people are "dumb" enough to get caught at SD, then they should loose...

Shrug, if I know a game will last a long time, I'm in it for the long haul- colonists.

Colonists win games, and don't require experience.

*HOWEVER*

Colonists aren't the only deciding factor in the game, there is cash, figs, and grids.. A good player can control all of this at once, and be able to wisely attack other players.. Just because he kills someone, doesn't mean he can't bring his experience back down. I've accually podded myself in a few games, just to stay under 1k experience.

and btw- I don't get experience when I PPT.

i don't know why but newbs seem to associate high exp with doing "well".

if i'm on a mixed corp at the end of the day I will probably have 0 exp. even if I killed 10 people that day.

now if you say no corps and this is a solo game, then you open the field up for all kinds of dirty play. one players helping another to gain exp etc.

if i bring my 3 friends, and they all funnel their cash to me, what do i do? i bust planets all day everyday until your time limit is up.

you need something more tangible... for example (And just an example) a point system that rewards what is generally considered "good play".

Something like 1 points for a pod, 3 points for #SD#, 2 points for invading lv2 cit, 4 points for lv3, 5 points for lv4, etc. then you could add in bonus points like person with most colos at end of game +3... person with most kills at end of game +3... person with most cash / figs etc you get the point.

2nd example would be a capture the flag type game where you create an alien planet, and basically everyone fights it out and whoever is controlling that planet at the end of the game wins.

Thrid example, a game similar to chess where the goal is too capture as many lv4 planets as possible.

Bottom line, at the end of the day you need something that can be added up, totaled, and a clear victor declared.

Agreed-

I also suggest a board of directors, and a 2nd, impartial party to total the values- since money would be involved, you wouldn't want your friends winning :)
