What makes a good server? Settings, games, etc?
I'm currently debating what kind of game to put up next. I'm already hosting two custom games (both EPOCH-4 based), which are fast, fun (in my opinion), and very RED friendly, though Blue certainly has quite a few advantages too.
So, what's next? What do people want to see? Super-custom games? Classic games? Unlimited turn games? Low-turn games (I think these are a great challenge but scripters hate them)?
Feedback, please! What makes a good server?! [?]

it seems like no matter what settings you have, some people will still not like it.. cant please everyone i guess if i were in your position i would just take some of the more popular edits and run them and see which ones have more people playing and then run them over and over

I'm a college student who, now that Christmas break is over and is taking up German was well as being required to practice for at least an hour a day on sax, not to mention who is also taking piano and should probably practice that too, has very little time for unlmiteds unless they have a truce. And then when truce is over, I'm DEAD. I can't defend against an attack if I'm gone all day, ya know? I personally am burned out on unlimited as a mainstay and have rediscovered my love for medium turn games. I define medium turns as 3-7.5k turns in a 20k universe. It makes for a little bit longer and more developed game...plus I can not worry about being totally eliminated from a game on day 1. Big universe and limiting turn amount gives everyone some time to recoup from early losses. Planets taken on day 2? Make some more. With active players, no one will generally take over for a while. Just my opinion though.

No worries, I'm not trying to please everyone. But I would like to have "something for everyone," if possible.

I think a variety of different edits would be nice. TW55 has his Willy Wonka edits, did he send them to you yet? I am currently working on my edits, but it has been slow due to other priorities in my life.
EPOCH-4 is good, but it could be better. I noticed that Game S is missing the Hellstorm Assault ship that used to be in an older version of the game. Also I needed a ship to carry a lot of mines, most of the EPOCH-4 ships carry 10 or 25 mines. So today I bought a Destroyer that can carry 250 mines. No more twarping to just outside of the stardock many times to lay mines for me now. Also the Destroyer has decent fighting odds and can carry more figs. Just no ptorp, but that is ok as I do not need it for this stage of the game yet.
I am trying to get someone to corp with me, I am thinking of joining TW55's corp as I have in the past. He started a corp as "The Outfit" and later quit it an formed a new corp. The only downside that I can see is that I lose the CEO ship and all my grid figs turn rogue.

Yeah TW55 has emailed me one but has yet to mail me the new update (no, TW, I'm not going to go find them on your web site [:)]).
Also, Game S isn't missing that ship, I just haven't turned it on yet. It's coming.... I wanted to give it a little time to build before pulling out the "big guns." Post feedback on the System78 TWGS forum if you have comments on my current games (of course I don't mind you plugging them here, too [:D]).

Asking what a player want is the same as asking what a woman wants you'll never get a straight answer

I want 3-7.5k turns in a 20k sector universe.

Most servers run multiple games, different types of games for different styles of play. Some people like unlimited games, some like medium turn games, some like low turn games. Different people have different styles of play they prefer. Which makes for everyone wanting different types of settings within the low, medium and unlimited turn games. Let's not even get into the whole scripts/no scripts argument, low turn games are for real strategists/no it's unlimited turn games that are for strategists, true killers only play in low turn games/no true killers only play in unlimited turn games etc. Enough to give one a headache

Anything to help you out, your server isn't used as much as some of the others, so I try and send some players over your way.
I see it as a training game, because there are so few players to challenege me. TW55 trained me in it before. Only Stein was able to take over some of my planets, but I took them back.
I'll be going into ptrading as soon as I can save the money up to do so, after that I'll have enough to buy those big gun ships.

My server USED to be quite busy... until the Darn old box died. After that I went out and bought a brand new Dell system (2.2GHz) and ALL it does is TWGS (well, that and DNS/DHCP for my home network). Still, once I lost my player base it's hard to get them back.
Hey Rofellos - I've got that. Game "E".
Strider_2001 - Yeah, no kidding.
Anyway, I'm thinking of adding a couple of new games to the server (including TW55's Willy Wonka... though I'm not so sure about that idea.
Maybe in the next few weeks. Anyone have suggestions for popular game edits? If not, I'll probably find something from the Coastgames File Section. Any old favs you'd like to see revived?

Another (potentially) nifty feature I thought players might like is some voice interaction. I'm running a TeamSpeak server on my TWGS system for a few other gamers so I thought I'd add a TWGS channel.
Click Here to download the TeamSpeak 2 client (Windows or Linux). Then connect to twgs.system78.com (standard port).
Does this seem like something that would make playing TW more fun? Oh, you can use this TS server even if you're not playing on my TWGS server. If you've got a few friends and you'd like to voice chat feel free to use the system. Even public (anonymous) users can create private passworded channels.
