Runaway Proton wrote: When Players log in to this game today, they see the game, as it's played, in the manner we play it today. Those of us who have been around know the game has changed, but reality is this is the game TODAY. Just because you like the games that are on the Playstation 1, doesn't mean that the Playstation 3 will even support those games. If you want to play them, dig up a playstation 1 and plug it in, but there are many who are very successful at the PS3 games who have never laid eyes on the PS1 I think I made my point I do like your analogy RP. This is a 25 year old BBS game, and there are people who want to play it like it was 15 - 20 years ago. We now have most everything we need to emulate that, the last toggle remaining is the abort display. The best you could argue is that I'm trying to segregate the players. Or bring back a segment that's been lost. Pong anyone?

Abort or don't 500ms delay to land/move/lift/attack ... = 500ms every time. Other than my first two years playing my local dial up totally manually - (Pre-Twar for Win) I've always used a helper of some sort to play. After the dos based helpers became obsolite, and before Swath and TWX I wrote simple macros for Zoc. I've almost always used some sort of "tool" to help play this game. I promised someone that I would learn the new style of play once we had the settings in place to make this game more newbie friendly, and we do, and I put a server up. I've had at least 25 unique visitors to my server, on occation I do watch them play. As I had anticipated, most of the players coming to my server are playing manually, or with Swath. I see very little TWX activity. Now that I've started learning more about TWX scripts, I may like to try writing one myself. And now that I've seen first hand what's possible, I don't have a setting on my server that will limit this, other than single player mode, and I'm not going there. Players prefer the mulit-player platform. My question to you who don't like this idea, what's the harm?

Crosby wrote: Quote: for my newbie/returning player games A recent request for a feature, the switching off of the abort display setting in the computer, is a game changer. The game is a text game, so a ton of text is being sent, even with animation turned off. Being able to abort these blocks of text to get info faster is a fundimental skill that a newb or retread Needs to know. The only reason given for this feature is how baffling it is to have a script abort displays. Is the option of Not running the baffling script out of the question? All the pack 1 and 2 scripts that come with the free version of twx toggle the cn9 settings. All those public scripts will be tubed. Why teach that to your trainees? Forgive me if I'm pushing the bounds of open discussion, had to be said. OK, so you think the game can ONLY be played and enjoyed if you use TWX? If this is a simple feature for JP to implement, and I'm the only one using it on my server, how is this going to effect your enjoyment of the game? And if you're correct that this will "tube" all the public TWX scripts - trust me, we can also ask JP to include this setting in the * menu so you'd know this game has settings you don't like. I will put in the game name in flashing ansi - TWX does not work here! Default tedit setting should naturally be as it is right now.

 Re: Game changing feature requests
The reason for not allowing a player to abort messages as he/she feels is appropriate really hasn't been covered in detail. The "how" it will produce a desireable effect or why that effect is desrieable (other than the supposed "mess with script kiddies" mentality).
I doubt if I am the only one that use methods to speed up certain actions in a game over the average player. Aborting messages is just one area to do that, but you will need a little more research into the game. I know of no public scripts out that use one method in particular.

Aborting messages is just one area to do that, but you will need a little more research into the game. I know of no public scripts out that use one method in particular. And I'm not certain that this will mess up TWX. The HVS MBBS version cannot abort displays, everything in Swath works with exception to turbo mode. There are no delays in HVS MBBS that I know of, everything does display and if I run say a Zoc buydown script, it's an extremely fast screen blur. So, is this proposed toggle a game changer or not? We won't know until we try it. But, what I suspect is that players will figure out how to adapt the TWX scripts. And will TWX scripts be just as deadly or not if they cannot abort display? I think then we'll get into the latency settigs of the game that we have now, and those will help create a level playing field.

There is already a bit of a fragmented player base, what with the turn vs. unlimited crowd. How much more dilute do you want the playing community? Sportmanship, fair play, skills vs. technology, the day a Swath player with skils and game knowledge can compete with a player of the same skills game knowledge using TWX. (And yes, I know you can run TWX and Zoc scripts from within Swath.)

Kewbreeze and The Butcher didn't think it was possible to photon past armids the way I did. LOL I was just the player who had it loaded and ran it. The credit for this script goes to Xanos. He and T0yman are great teachers, they let me learn at my own pace. If I weren't so suborn (Irish), I would have left long ago like so many others. I still beleive it's possible to offer a game that will bring more players back to the game. Just one more toggle!

Just one more toggle! I don't have a beef with you Crucher, but I have to honestly say I believe that most have left not because of scripts, but because of the bickering that goes on in this community. Some call it Smack, and a little is fine, but it's got far too hardcore for most players, and they simply turn their back on it. I for one go to forums to find help, but it gets so diluted by the bashing back and forth that it’s hard to find meaningful content any longer, and scripts (Current or New) have become hard to come by as well in the public databases. If we could turn this forum into a source of help, without all the bashing, perhaps those who venture inside would stay and learn the game, scripts or no scripts, fast or slow pace, delays or none, I don’t think it would matter. That’s my 2 cents RP
