Unread post Newbie questions
Hi -

Sorry if this has been asked before I could not find it. I am hoping you veterans and experts can help answer this. I used to play TW back in the day before the Internet on a BBS I was coSYSOP on. Now I did some research to see if this game still exists so I can re-live the old days. I wanted to buy this game for playing around solo and just checking out the game again.

My questions are:

1. If I want to buy the TWGS Lite version what do I need to purchase it is not very clear. I don't have any previous TW2002 license codes. Do I just buy the TWGS Lite for $25 and that is all I need to play this game or do I have to buy the TWGS Lite and TW2002 Bundle for $40?

2. Does the game support BOTS or would this game be useless for solo play to get to know the game again before going to online games? I would like to relearn and practice the game against bots if possible on my local PC?

3. Does the author still process codes? Reading some of the posts it looks like this game may have been given very low priority and codes take an extremely long time to be send out once it is purchased?

k, I gave it a few days for the 'experts' to chime in. I'll give my two bits since they haven't ;-)

1) the lite version will do fine for you, but if you're just 'getting the feel' you can just download the public version... all you need for the lite version is money and paypal; back up to eisonline.com go to order..is eisonline.com/order/default.htm i'm pretty sure.

2) You want to set up your home pc/server to host the game, then log in with a bunch of 'bots' and learn corp play? sounds ambitious. i'll say it can be done. if you have another computer, say a laptop on a wireless network, much easier. best way to learn corp play would be jumping in a tourny like HHT for example, and playing with a corp.
you really should at least have some experience with bots and corp play before trying to set up your own home test server.

3) The author still has codes.. you may wait a week, most likely less. If you don't get anything in a week, you could post here on the forum and someone would get word to him. To hopefully answer your question, you won't get ripped off your 25$, you'll get your codes.

It would be $40. However, remember that the Lite version only allows 4 connections into it. So if you decide down the road you want to be a SysOp and host your own server, you will then need to register the other TWGS. The other issue to look at is Gold vs non-Gold. The TWGS with Gold allows you to create edits and edit the ships, planets, and Alien races if you want them. Non-Gold does not allow this. Also, you can't import a game edit in a non-Gold TWGS. Not to confuse you any further, but IMO, the full TWGS with Gold is the best. This way you can regulate the number of nodes, and as you learn about the game and the TWGS itself, you may decide to become a host.

The game has the alien races that you may recall from our old BBS days. The Alien Traders and Ferrengi. However, if you go to most servers, you will see that they have edits with different races. You can create different races in the Editor, providing you have paid for a TWGS with Gold registration. Some of us have also created Bots to play in our games, but that deals with scripting and a different application altogether.

He does process codes, but like the rest of us, he is extremely busy. Make sure that you send an e-mail to him once you register, as well as checking your spam folder incase your codes got moved there.

Hopefully that helps answer some questions. If you want more help, don't hesitate to ask.

I would have chimed in, but I never bought the lite version so I wouldn't have been much help.

I have two registrations of the TWGS Gold 100 node and 1 registration of the 4 node lite. I use the lite to create edits or run a test for scripts, then move to the other TWGS. It's ok, but I know from a SysOp stance it would not suit any purpose if you want to become a host. Better to pay for the full version than having to do multiple registrations.
