 Re: The naming of ports
Thought I'd get you on Phlogiston ;)
I just went for 10 questions, and thought deities was pretty easy.
Czar'ak could be a made up name. There are plenty of those. But it could also be a very obscure character from a sci fi novel. I know Gary and Mary Ann pulled a lot from their favorite authors.

 Re: The naming of ports
Nothing quite that obscure....
Czar'ak (Gamma Andromedae C) is a star that, along with Alam'ak and Behr'ak, is part of the Gamma Andromedae, a quadrinary star system in or near Federation space in the Alpha Quadrant. The Federation starship USS Czar'ak was named for this location. (ST reference: Star Fleet Technical Manual)

I assumed Comet did a google search on it. Comes right up. The Trek wikis are a great resource.

 Re: The naming of ports
Nope just read the post on here for naming of the ports and I was in a game and I saw that name. Thought it looked a bit peculiar!

 Re: The naming of ports
There are some made up names in there, but very few. Most of them come from somewhere.

 Re: The naming of ports
I was surprised- there are a lot of names of weapon manufacturers listed. Lots of types of rifles and such. Didn't see Browning on the list though!

 Re: The naming of ports
You're a big fan of the Hitchhiker books, I could tell from your TW site name ("mostly harmless") and recent forum name ("Hotblack Desiato"). I love Hitchhiker's Guide. It doesn't appear that there are any in the ports list. I guess the Martin's weren't big fans of the books, which would surprise me. Next time I need to expand the port list, I'll consider some of these.
Although I love all of Adams' name creation, my favorites are Slartibartfast and Veet Voojagig. And who can forget Eccentrica Gallumbits?

LOL You should add the Vogon race! If they move into your sector, they destroy all your planets...

 Re: The naming of ports
Soon, hopefully gameops will be able to add a race like that themselves :)

 Re: The naming of ports
I was messing at work today and wrote a short script for renaming ports. I took the top 200 posters from the forum (minus a few I dislike) and placed them in a text file, created a second text file and added other random naming then ran the script, takes about 8 minutes per 1000 ports. I could make it where it just did like a random 500 ports and awarded points or something for finding a port with a specific name. Here are a few examples. Dunno I was bored needed something to keep me awake today.
Harley Nuss Moon Mantis Harmless Parrothead Revenge Grazhoppa Inc LoneStar Radioactive Cherokee Milkyway John Pritchett Surfer V'Ger Master

 Re: The naming of ports
You ever read his Dirk Gently series? Douglas Adams was also the Story Editor for Tom Baker's Doctor Who for a few years.

Not as good as the hitch hiker books, but it's still Adams.
