Re: 3 New Games on Beta Just Opened for Business!
Here is the mombot main file adjusted to relog on the twgs beta (and still works on the current twgs)
I changed line 4668 from 'Trade Wars 2002 Game Server' to 'Game Server'
Thanks to Sing for the fix. It turns out that an ansi menu on the game menu can cover the selection prompt I chose.

I looked again at the edits I did locally and saved to the .twa file to give to JP. The cpc setting of 1 is not what I had intended. Originally I had it set to 15. I'm looking for a happy medium, fast enough so it's not choppy or laggy but slow enough to outrun a ptorp or pdrop script most days.

Why do you think that is even possible? Unless JP does some sort of planet move delay similar to a ship move delay. you know it would easier for you to learn scripts that are able to avoid pdrops and ptorps.

Re: 3 New Games on Beta Just Opened for Business!
The lower the CPC, the harder it is to outrun a pdrop or ptorp. If you lower the CPC, you are making it easier to ptorp someone. This is because ptorp and pdrop scripts use very simple low-CPC macros, they do not need complex strings to do their job.
Low CPC does not equate to "hard for scripts."

It truely is difficult to try to help you to understand how dramatically game play has changed unless you've been away from it for any length of time. Here's an example, before when a ship took X turns to move, that required X CPC. or whatever the measure of movement was then, before it was removed. Not at all like the ship delay now. Ship delay I will agree makes scripts much more powerful, but the planet delay, don't we still have that? We have to sit and watch the pretty blue squares...

Re: 3 New Games on Beta Just Opened for Business!
There's no delay in planet movement. You are talking the ansi screen which can be bypassed with spaces. What they are trying to say is, the lower the max commands per cycle, the easier it is to ptorp or pdrop someone because of the amount of data sent to the server. If you add a ship move delay on top of that, it even makes the ptorp and pdrop scripts more effective. If you want to give the advantage to the gridder, then an actual planet delay effecting planet movement from 1 sector to another would have to be introduced. Be careful not to unbalance it too much because if gridding is too easy the better scripters will be unstoppable and will grid out the universe with ease.
Edit: After all, planets are the biggest ships in the game. When a ship move delay is initiated, the high tpw ships take longer to move. Shouldn't a planet have the longest delay?

Like I have told you before I was away from the game for a long time 5 or 6 years even...and I was blown away by scripts when I first came back… the first person I came across was Thebutcher at ICE9 game M in 2003 and I pretty much got SD on a daily basis. My reaction wasn’t oh you cheating, or I can't compete so let find a game where you can't play the way you are or what ever random suggestion/statement you have thrown out now.... Instead I said ok how the heck are you doing that...and he was nice enough to point me in the direction of TWX and swath and introduced me to Rider and River Rat and a few others for teaching and I had a LOT of "teachers" that helped me learn scripts and some of the (new to me) strategies/play styles and I think it's only been about 6 years now maybe 7 plus I took a year off 2 years ago... So yes I do "understand how dramatically game play has changed" ...I just had a different approach/ reaction and apparent understanding.

How is any of that smack? Because it's my ture history of where I'm coming form?
Does it bother you that I can back up what I'm saying along with what a lot of the other player that you are making post to are also saying to you?
But then again I’ve also said I think anything you have to say should be started and stated in smack forums anyhow.

i also remember making that same request. furthermore, thrawn can do his own job without your help there- you arent a forum mod, and as such should probably refrain from trying to act like one.

Re: 3 New Games on Beta Just Opened for Business!
You know guys. The more I think about it, the better I like the idea of a planet move delay. However, NOT 100% of the time. The planet move delay should adjust accordingly with the ship move delay. This would actually make ship move delay something that would be feasible to use. Just add the planets to the ship move delay along with the ships, so it's 1/4 delay it's 1/4 delay acrosss the board. I think JP has it set now that higher turns per warp ships are slower. So just make planet delay the same as an average tpw ship like the Federation Starship (4 tpw).
This would keep game play with no delay the same as most current players like it now, but still cater to newer players wanting to learn the game at a slower pace.

*facepalm*
Delays don't work. If JP adds more, he needs to make them configurable.
Don't use averages, that's just going to make it easier to grid you out. Trust the sysops to run their own stuff the way they want.
