I used to play this game back when you didnt have to have a bachelors degree in computer programming to script your way into victory.

I played years ago when every player on the server SPOKE - TALKED - laughed - teased - etc...

The few games I've tried here - no body is EVER THERE... just BOTS running around like mad trading and earning money... THAT SUCKS.

I tried it... sure its nice to farm up a lot of money... easy to colonize a planet... After about 6 days of being online CONSTANTLY I had about 15 nice looking planets and 20 different maxed out spacecraft...

The ONLY OTHER PLAYER then logged in and destroyed all I had...

What fun is that?

The dude NEVER talked - I messaged him tons of times - he never replied... then he kills me out of the game (I was the only other player... come on... how boring does he want it to be?)

So - I refuse to play another game like that...

I want a game that:

Has NO human vs human combat.

OR a game that allows NO BOTS! - No scripts - No helpers - just your fingers typing away...

I imagine that my two requests are not possible... I've browsed lots of game bangs and I never see anything that looks like this.

So I guess I should just STAY AWAY from Tradewars? I was really hoping to be able to enjoy playing... but If I cant talk to people - whats the fun in that...

Especially if the NON TALKERS just pawn me with their awe inspiring super fast monster macros (while they sip a drink in their living room)

Any comments ?

That's the game today. It's almost impossible to eliminate scripts with the options we have. When you started, if the players had the know how they have today, you would have seen it back then too. There are a few servers that provide games for new players and have no attack rules. Sounds to me that's what you're looking for.

Good luck, I know a few sysops that would bang a game like that but most of them don't have the players to support that type of a game. And if they do it would require sysop to monitor the game, cuz most TW players are not ethical enough to stay wuthin the rules. Or they will bend the rules to meet the desired need at the moment. Closest I know is Ice building game T or E but they will invade and shoot but you get 30 days, and there is alot of talk in the evenings, more sociable than alot of other games I have played.

Best bet is ask if someone would host such a game and start getting people interested, never know might be a group interested.

anyway....good luck don't give up yet

awww c'mon, are you that guy from laketravisbum ?? (twgs.laketravisbum.com)

I'm pretty sure I pointed you towards ice-9 :
http://www.thestardock.com/twgssearch/i ... rname=ICE9
this is probably the best starting point for your search. I'm guessing your quest will end in a small private server, perhaps your own, with a cool, if slightly geeky, custom game with about a half dozen cool, if slightly geeky, individuals.
As for no-scripting games? search for Corwin's server as it sounded to me as non-scripty type server...
If you wonder what happened to the game of your youth (?) or whatever...it has evolved/devolved to present state.
Scripts once private and/or available for a small fee, are now freely available on several websites.
Gridding and grid defense, now a necessary component in today's games.
Bots that help coordinate corp activities once private, now public and open source.
Advanced game strategies discussed at exaustive length here in the forums.
So most of the above things have contributed to the current state of the game. The reason no Non-Combat games are available, is because they have died out, fallen out-of-favor. I think after you find such a game, you'll realize it's just an extremely geeky form of 'chatroom'

Ice-9 has a very friendly building game, iirc. Sure, after your extended truce/grace period..you'll be fair game. It is a strategy/combat game, isn't it?

Choose a turns game. There's far less automated cashing and people actually have to play. Yes you'll still see automated grid defense, but you can learn to beat that.

I believe TheCrustyChicken.com has a few non-scripting games. Also, if you search BBS listings you can find some games that are older versions and/or are behind BBS frontends which tend to draw old-school players.

Good idea on searching for BBS frontends...

I think both these sites had some type of tradewars game off the bbs.

again, good luck.

I tend to run several low turn games that pretty much make most scripts useless. There will always be some scripting going on, but in low-turn games a person who wants to develop their game "from the keys" can compete fairly well.

Games A, B, and C on twgsgold.servegame.com are low-turn games. Game C has modified ships to simulate a low-turn game.

Thank you all for the tips and advice - links and such... Your suggestions were all good - and closer to what I'd like.

I can not use all those fancy confusing scripts / bots /helpers - I suck at them - wasted over 50 hours over the past month trying to figure them all out - and honestly it would take me at least another 500 hours before I'm going to be an good -- EVEN THEN I'll NEVER be as good as the others who use them all the time.

I want a Building game - NO HUMAN COMBAT; Any human attacks another humans ship or planets=banned... That is what I'm after.

a game that lasts for at least 3 months because I don't play that often - and at the end of those 3 months - THEN - and ONLY then during the last week - there can be human on human combat.

I want to fight aliens - build a large set of bases - max out a few planets and sectors -- and while others may be able to do that in a matter of hours or days - Its going to take me WEEKS... (Yes a true NERDS game - totally BORING - no adrenaline rushes - Just a true newbie's paradise)

I've looked at many games - and all of them are always cut-throat - kill everyone asap games where most of the players are rude as heck to the others... The only game with relatively friendly people was on a 'pirate' game I found someplace - that was on day 1 million something - everyone was maxed out - and I couldnt do ANYthing... no colonists - couldn't explore because everyone had a huge grid with thousands of figs in each sector... it was a bad joke...

I want to thank Amra - Crosby - Helix and the others who were kind enough to assist me in learning some of these scripts -- but.. NO thanks... That's just too much for me... I want a simpler game - a slower paced one - where I have many weeks to be worry free - and only the end to worry about.

Permanent Truce. - or SUPER long truce...

'Tradewars - Minus the wars'...

Can this happen - short of me buying a license to run the game on my own computer?

Next on my list to check is:

http://twgsgold.servegame.com/

(they have a couple games that APPEAR to be geared towards players like me that want to HELP other humans to defeat aliens / rather than another human fight game)

Thanks for giving me a look. You appear to be the exact type of player I set up my server for. Few and far between, but hopefully more will trickle in as the word gets out.

I may eventually set up all of the games for low-turn build games in various configurations, different goals, different aliens, etc. Sometimes it pays to have a specialty server.

Draconia,

The Pirate game was probably the one on ICE9, the server that I run. We are constantly tweaking the settings of our building games, and a new one will be starting a week from Friday, that has player contributed ideas and suggestions on how to make the game a bit less cut throat. Things we will be incorporating that are different from the current game are:
Max Corp Size: 3
Collies: 5M on day 1, with a regen rate of approx 260k (as opposed to the normal cap of 65k) that is done gradually with a script.
Attack Policy: New players get a 30 day base protection, and a 15 day ship to ship protection, as long as they do not act aggressive.

There are also some mods to the ships so that there is no good ship for Milking Terra, as long as you are fed safe, this, in addition to the smaller collie size, should really throttle back the asset accumulation that has grown in the past few versions of this bang.

Ice9 Players are generally very friendly, and while I cannot guarantee that you would never be attacked, they do tend to leave people alone without a good reason to do otherwise, except at the end of the game.

I'm glad to see that this community is active. Everyone posting has been helpful and I appreciate it.

I will explore a few games based upon replies -and pm's I got... I was just taken aback by the massive speed and skill of some of the players I watched... The speed that some people amassed such strength and wealth is something I wont be able to compete with -- ever -- so I'm really interested in finding games where I wont HAVE to compete against others directly...

I hope I at least have time to find a tiny corner / or small bubble to build in and get enough fighters to mess around with some aliens... That alone will take me many hours of play time- spread out over weeks... Seems many games only last a matter of DAYS before they are 'over'; I'm confident that something is out there... Perhaps in the next half a year or so I'll find myself wanting more challenge and faster games; for now I just want baby steps... lol

Thanks again for your replies.

No problem, glad to help. You'll find if you ask a SysOp if you could get a private (closed) game to learn and they have the slot available, then they are willing to help out. Sometimes it's nice to have time to learn at our own pace, other times you don't have the luxury.

In any event, best of luck to you and if you have any issues, questions, etc, you know where to find us ;)

Cheers.
