According to Wikipedia, most of the posters here [edit] including myself meet the definition of "troll" at some point in time [/edit]:

In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts controversial, inflammatory, irrelevant or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room or blog, with the primary intent of provoking other users into an emotional or disciplinary response[1] or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Troll_(Internet)

Is that smack to ask a question related to you stepping down from one title and into another?
I hope you do not find it offensive as it is a simple question that I would want to know the definitions based on statements you have made in resent history. Including in this thread.

Sad but true.

It looks very good though.

The two times you've posted in this thread Kewlbreeze, it has came off as more smack than comments suitable for open discussions to me. If nothing else you are on the border line IMO.

Why not move the whole thread to Smack, then you don't have to cry "Smack Talk" at every post. The whole thread belongs there. While you use a title that might be considered an Open Discussion topic, everyone of your posts, and the responses they engender, are provoking and inflammatory.

The only posts that might be considered smack talk that I've posted in this thread are the ones complaining about smack talk, however your posts are clearly smack talk. I'll see if the moderator will split the posts where it started and leave the open discussion topic in tact.

While I appreciate the time moderators devote to trying to keep the forums in order, I personally think that classictw moderators in general are way too strict on their interpretation of what belongs where. Moving posts around is very confusing - I usually find it to be more chaotic than orderly. This is especially true when a thread is split... it's one thing to move an entire thread when it's clearly off-topic, but constantly trying to split threads in order to organize them such that each and every word is on-topic (in the moderator's opinion) seems to me to be an exercise in futility.

At first I thought some moderators were just being overzealous, but now I'm not so sure. Maybe in the past people have complained excessively about off-topic posts and as a result it's gone too far in the other direction? I don't know, but most other forum moderators I've encountered are much less into the micro-management of threads that goes on here.

It also is up to the moderator of that area to determine if it warrants being moved. Each mod has his/her method to do their task when required.

If I move a topic or split it (I usually move the entire topic) from Open discussion, I usually post to inform everyone it was moved. Mind you I have an easy role as mod here. It's Open Discussion, not Smack. I generally only have to deal with the spam crap waiting for approval and very rarely have to move anything else.

Well, I don't include you then when I talk above about tw "moderators in general"... I've never noticed you moving threads around inappropriately (or at all), but as you say, you have an easier job in this forum. Also, I haven't been here all that long. Maybe it is only a couple of overzealous moderators who do this. I suppose it is difficult in a forum like Game Rebangs, where it's very easy for a thread to stray off-topic. But imo if a thread begins on-topic, then only the most obvious and drastic topic deviations should warrant splitting a thread.

I think the moderators do a great job in all catagories. If you post off topic or smack talk in game rebangs, scripts, or any other area such as that, expect it to be moved and the original topic to continue. This topic started as a moderator (me) giving my resignation. That's the topic, and that's where it should remain. This topic isn't about whether you think the moderators are doing thier job correctly. Start another thread if you want to discuss that. I'd suggest smack talk if you want it to remain in tact.

I agree with you. If a topic is started and remains more or less on that topic, I'll let it be. I don't worry about the stray posts, unless someone posts and then a flame war errupts. As soon as it goes in that direction, I'll move it and post that it's been moved. I can certainly see what you are meaning. At least I don't have to mod Smack Talk (joking Space Ghost) ;)

The trick is to learn about the users of that forum and what to expect from whom when you are a mod. Sometimes it's easier to let comments slide, but other times it can be a royal pain. As I said, each person responds differently and handles the task in his/her way, or the interpretations get mixed up.

Besides, I have other things to worry about at the end of the day, such as if my 5 kids had a good day, or if Daala (my wife) is relaxing or is stressed and needs me, or when my next deployment is going to be and for how long, or if I have enough coffee to get me through the day.

This is all just your opinion, and I completely disagree with it. I don't think the thread should be moved or split- things would lose their context. With certain moderators, I am constantly opening posts that were obviously moved from elsewhere, and I always wonder what the heck people are talking about / referring to. If you were the moderator here, you'd dissect this thread into who knows how many pieces, but you'd just be making extra work for yourself and confusing everyone who tries to read the thread.

Your suggestions are noted, but you are the one who is moving towards smack talk... I've been careful to keep this well within the boundaries of Open Discussion.

I guess you're not a moderator anymore, so maybe it's not that important, but if you do ever decide to resume the duties, please consider Thrawn's attitude very carefully and seriously think about whether that sort of attitude would be better for everyone.
