 Rant
The minority of active players who say they prefer classic, turn-limited games never show up for them when they're banged. Why won't they respond to attempts to organize them so we can get a real game going? Still basically just me in Cruncher's Black Friday game... me, one fakey, and one dude who doesn't haggle (you can tell from his XP) colonizing in a CargoTran. I want some competition... like that one game I played against Jaguar and El Macho... Peeps better show up for Cruncher's Cabin Fever tourney. No excuses!

Been hearing the same thing for years, wish we could find an answer. Only thing I can figure is people just like to complain. For me, I just don't like games with less than 1500 turns. Seems most classic style games are banged it is <1000 turns. Not saying I would play but that is one main thing that keeps me away from those games.

' You might need to advertise on Facebook since that is where I hear the "classic" game players are. To echo Toyman, we have heard the "I want low turn classic settings" for a long time. I tried it on my server, but had no players in it. The unlims did well, and the games with 3k turns on up did well.

I think that's wildly unbalanced, and I doubt anyone could get a citadel to level 2. How long does it take you to play 1000 turns? At least in the early days of a game, when I'm still exploring, planning, and setting up, it takes a good hour. That's about all the time I want to commit to one game. Prom: I actually did advertise on FB, because that's where JP's poll showed majority support for turn games. The only response was JP reiterating his commitment to making variety possible. I think T0yman's right... people talk the talk but they won't walk the walk.

 Re: Rant
Or they're just waiting for this winter, after the holidays. Jan - March are typically the months when a great deal of people look for something to do in the dead of winter. My server has only been up since August, construction dust hasn't settled yet on the latest (still waiting for 2.14) release. I will promote "Cabin Fever" more as the time draws closer. I've already made up a cool ansi desc page for the game. I want to redo my front intro page yet too. I have 2 more weeks of school, then I'll get that done. Build it, and they will come... they are, slowly I'll see if Jag & El Macho want a reset any time soon. They still control game B and log in daily.

I like the positive thinking! But I reserve the right to be pessimistic since I have been hearing the same stuff for about 5 years. Bang it and they will come is not always true, need the right mix to get them in the game.

So, If I bang you a classic game with 1200 turns, no bank you'll come? (After the B.O.T.E. naturally)

 Re: Rant
When I had Black Sun open, I ran into this issue a lot. I think one problem is that this type of player typically plays 1 or 2 games at a time. And oftentimes, they find an edit on a server they like and just stick to that game. We saw that on River Rat's server. How many of us showed up for one of his specific game rebangs over and over?

 Re: Rant
I have a therory I'm testing. The majority of the public servers now run a wide varity of games, from Classic to Sub-Zero's and M002's.
I'm looking to attrack just one type of player, those who enjoy low turn, time limit games, and who don't care to play in games with aggressive scripts.
I'm not trying to attract the largest number of players, just the most with the same mind-set.
My games aren't for everyone, they aren't intended to be. So, we'll see what this winter produces.
And as with Mongoose, if one of my players has an edit they would like to see open publically, as long as it's a low turn, time limit type game, I'm more than happy to give budding game edit masters the opportunity to see their edits open to the public.
I may even host private closed games as well for those who ask.

I believe that is not the right way to approach it C, you really need to get the gang there, then once they are in the unlim games, try and smooze em over into the old style stuff. I have both and I do have players in the lower turn games even though I'm never there anymore.

 Re: Rant
That's not what I said.
As an OP, you have the ability to create any game you want. Now this is just my opinion but you can create a few fast unlims on your server to entice members over. You don't have to play them or even support the idea of them but you never know, you might just convert someone who, for whatever reason, gets tired of running scripts 24/7 and starts longing for a little human interaction...
Just my opinion.....

Muss wrote: the best thing to do would be to jump the minority ship and hop aboard the majority ship. I'm playing in the B.O.T.E. I'm learning more about script play, I am evolving now that we have the settings I wanted to help people get back in and up to speed at their own pace. Seriously though, I've never played the "killer" position and probably never will. I still don't care to play TW like a "first person shooter". B.O.T.E. is my kind’ a of tourney, stock settings, low turns. I'll learn what I must to survive, and our team may even win, stranger things have happened. My server will always have Classic TW setting, MBBS Mode with Mega Rob off. IMHO, this will make for a more competent player in the long run, learn the game basics first, then move up to learning script play. What I see too often are players who use scripts that other players write, but still lack the basic fundamentals of the game. So, when they need a place to come and regroup, mine will always be there for them. And many are happy to be out of the heavy aggressive script games, and yet not restricted by silly truce rules. Beleive me, once they get bored with stock games, or want to learn more advance attack script play they are free to move on.
