I'm out for now. I don't have the time required to dedicate myself to the game. As well, the style of the Challenges doesn't suit my tastes and/or abilities. I would love to see a slower, more conventional style game. One that doesn't punish you for missing just one day. Maybe an old school 500 turns, bare-bones game that draws out for 20+ days before anyone can destroy others. Just my opinion.
Just reading the end of May, June and early July forums, I cant believe how much drama and BS gets flung, over a game. I would think, if you want to encourage more players to get back into the game, and keep some of the newbies around longer, you might be more welcoming to them. I realize you want to create your super corps and your all friends. That's great - but I will say this, it doesn't help bring in new people to play. Maybe smaller corps of 1 or 2 seasoned players and 1 or 2 newbies - would make it easier to help train people getting back in. Again, just my opinion.
It reminds me of my days racing R/C cars. All of us "pros" would show up with our thousands of dollars in equipment and cars, and we would kick Butt every race. There would be 20-30 of us pros, and 15-20 new kids. Slowly those new kids realized they couldn't compete. The level of fun never increased, because they couldn't match the pros. We literally killed off the future of the hobby, because we all had our money, egos and winning on our mind. Of course you have the few who went out of their way to help new people. I was helped by one, and i'm glad to say I helped two kids get there start, and they are still racing to this day.
I want to thank Cruncher and Chaos for allowing this newbie to be on the same team as them, and to slowly help me learn the new ways to play the game. Thanks to Helix for additional information. I will probably still troll the page and maybe sign up again later in summer or most likely in winter when things slow down for me... if ever.
Again, Thanks to those who have helped me along the way. To those set on the drama... think about what your saying.

He Makes an interesting point maybe a old school game with only swath or something like that might be an interesting challenge. a game where the player has to do the work and not his scripts.

I get that for you and some other out there up to this point, the rest off your post is off basis and uncalled for parts seem hypocritical.

what drama?

Did someone step on a newbie?

huh? every team has new players on it including ours.

That's what Crunchers server is for, not a competitive challenge tourney in my opinion.

Sounds like you have some regrets about that and you were playing for you self. Maybe you should be playing at Curnchers or on ICE9 for the style it sounds like your looking for. but if the kids want to play more competitively they can come to the bigger boy table.

FYI - flezter hasn't played since the 1990's, and never before used any sort of helper. He was a 100% manual player that was just transporte light-years from the game he loved to the challenge game today. His is a normal reaction to what he experienced.

I've got to give him credit. He hung in there. He downloaded Swath and ran colos, every one of his turns was thoughtfully used to the best of his capabilities. He even downloaded TWX and Mombot.

He gave his all to our team and hung in there despite seeing how much has changed.

I give him credit for that, I'll take him on my corp any any day. And yes, I did invite him to play the Classic games on my server when he has time and wants to revisit some nostalgia.

KB - That's what I mean. I simply state my opinion and thoughts as a returning player, and immediately i'm called a hypocrite. I'm not one for drama at all, which is why i'm surprised with what I saw. Out of the game in the forums, where moderators had to step in numerous times. And in the game where name calling above and beyond smack talk and personal attacks on certain players.
All I was doing was giving a fair opinion in what I saw, as a returning player. Yes the game has changed, that's great. I'm glad it still exists, period. All I suggest is maybe try a tournament game at a slower speed with more conventional specifications. But I guess doing that, i'm not old enough to play at the "big boys table." Agreed Helix, I could run a host server and create just that game. I was simply putting out an opinion, in hopes someone else might think the same way.

If you want a slow 5,000 sector universe with 500 Turns, and whatever else just ask a TWGS admin (like myself), to set you up --the game could also be closed. You only need to ask 8)

I can't speak for Kewlb, but I sensed a slight hypocrisy with respect to your analogy of $1000.oo toys -vs- everyone else.. In this case I would expect that you'd use your insight to find a 'slow' game somewhere, hone your skills, partner up with experienced players, etc, etc.. $1000.oo is not required in this case.

Re the 'drama'. There's a history here, just ignore anything you precieve as negative and you'll find a spot for yourself in the community in no time. Besides, I would venture that most of the existing player base doesn't post here anymore (alluding to recent History).

Just a thought.

I almost always have at least one game on my server, Classic settings close to BOTE '98 in tournament mode. Surprisingly however, they don't get as much play as the very low turn games.

I try to reset at least one Classic game per month. And I have regular players playing more than one game at once. I think you'll like what I have running when you find time to play again.

So I can't post my thoughts and opinions? You don't see how posting drama about drama is not hypocrisy?

Guess I missed that or you were in a different game. If your not one for drama great don't post drama here.

I a thread for singing up for a tournament? how is that not dramatic at its finest?

Well you really wouldn't have anyone that you were posting to playing that for starters, how ever as it has been pointed out to you if that's the style you like there are games like that around. No ones going to hold it against you for playing them.

lol big boy table, fast car table what ever it was your story comparing kids to adults.

Well as you see your doing it the wrong thread and in the wrong way. If you go to the 2 servers I named you WILL find players that think and play that way. go have fun with them. Coming to the players that want to play fast pace WAR, build and kill and asking them to slow down and then criticizing might not be the best way to do it... opinion or not as everything any one says is opinion.

I agree with you completely. Baby seal clubbing contests aren't much fun for the losers or the winners and don't really mean much.

Shouldn't your sig say:

Ground Zero ---- Cowards----

And yet you are too yellow to accept our invitation. I'm really not disappointed however, we really frown on beating up on noobs.
